IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: IV is both touch-starved and incredibly wary of being touched, so he wouldn't let any random stranger touch him at will. Feel free to go for it, if you don't mind that your character might end up being potentially pushed away or get hit for their troubles.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Ask for serious injuries, but I'm good with general stuff. Just keep in mind that IV will do his best to give as good as he takes and we're golden!

RELATIONSHIPS: He could really use any positive relationships in his life. This poor bastard doesn't even know how to make friends.

PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: See below for mind-reading, manipulating or possessive questions. Empaths would probably pick up on a sense of impatience, anger and hurt from him, while those reading magical/psionic powers would be met with a taste of his Crest - basically an impression of a being met by a flashover fire.

MAGICAL INFORMATION: IV wears a Crest that lets him do a variety of things, mainly withstanding any sorts of controlling, brain-washing or curses. It's power in that regard is pretty strong but not infallible, so if you want to do something in that direction let me know beforehand.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Scars - Thanks to surviving a close proximity explosion and subsequent fire in a crumbling building, IV has prominent scars on both the right side of his face and the right half of his upper torso, mainly in the back and shoulder. He doesn't like having his scars on display, which is why he usually wears high collars and keeps his upper body covered.
Implant - IV wears a Duel Tattoo, which is basically an implant that lets him hook up with VR systems like the Overlay Network. When it's activated, it covers the left side of his face with a flame-like purple mark that vaguely mirrors the scars on the right side. It also turns his left eye blue.
Overall - IV's fit in the streets-hardened stray kind of way. He doesn't have much bunk to spare, but you bet that he's nasty in any kind of fight, even if it's a physical one. His eyes tend to have a hard, hungry & survivor kind of shine to them when he's not putting on an act or with somebody whom he really likes and wants to be liked back by them.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: The following things might come up while threading with him: manipulation, bullying, child abandonment, scars, burning alive, emotional and physical abuse, parental abuse, being replaced, war, loss of name, dubcon body modification (cybernetics), betrayal, death. If you'd like to opt out of any of those things, let me know here!

OUT OF CHARACTER

BACKTAGGING: Yes.

THREADHOPPING: Yes. (Within discretion.)

FOURTHWALLING: Vague 4th walling is okay, but nothing explicit, please.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL: 2 very prominent scars across the right half of his face, carries himself in a way that makes him look bigger than life. Very sleek in a not yet fully grown predator kind of way. Prefers to wear high-end clothes that are fashionable, but not too on the nose with it. IV's the kind of guy who will take great care to look good in the morning, but then proceeds to not to care if he gets dirty somewhere along the day.

AURAL: When putting on a front for the public, IV tends to speak very calmly and respectfully, giving the impression of somebody who likes meeting somebody at an eye-level. His pitch is on the deeper end, but very warm and mellow, giving a gentle impression.

When the mask comes off, IV sounds mostly one thing: angry. Both the tone of his voice and choice of words tend to be are harsh and respectless, and he's prone to air his true feelings loudly in a devil may care way.

OLFACTORY: Most likely like a mix of fresh laundry and fire.

DEMEANOUR: proud, competent, attentive, observant, gentle (business mode), humble (business mode), patient (business mode), hotblooded (real mode), sadistic (real mode), bratty (real mode), demanding (real mode), willful (real mode), arbitrary (real mode), hurt (real mode)

Character
Name: IV aka. Thomas Arclight
Series: Yu-Gi-OH!  Zexal
Timeline: episode 58: "Swimming With Sharks", after he collapsed next to the bed of his little brother
Canon Resource Links: Wiki link here. Disclaimer that the wiki entry tends to concentrate on the English Dub version of the series, which shows in the use of some changed names and the harmless-talking of some events in the series that happened in the English version of it.

Personality:

(Disclaimer that this focuses mainly on the way things are during season one, since that's the canon point I'm taking him from.)

Depending on who you ask, people will describe IV's personality wildly different. To his fans, IV is the Asia Champion; a very popular Pro Duelist who is well-known and loved for being basically the embodiment of a modern noble knight, to the point where he is nicknamed “the Gentleman Duelist.” As such he is famous for being humble, patient, empathic and approachable -  a person with a sweet smile who is as genteel outside the playing field as he is a merciless opponent when he does fight. Truly a man to whom 'fanservice' is more than just a word, and one who would see even those who did him wrong rather be given the chance to realize their mistakes and grow from them than to see them punished.

To his older brother, IV is the black sheep of the family, a good for nothing who lost any trace of good he had in him a long time ago. The IV Christopher knows is a hotheaded, childish bully who is prone to grudges and who takes out his frustrations on those most vulnerable to him: his own fans. It's an open secret in the Arclight family that IV has a nasty habit of inviting some random 'lucky' fans to one-on-one meetings with special "fanservice" provided by yours truly, which will inevitably devolve into IV crushing them both mentally and physically as violently as possible. IV is unsavory, but he is also good at what he does and has every reason to be loyal to his family, which makes him in turn useful to keep around, even when they clash at every turn.

To his enemies, IV is an egoistical narcissist, merciless, ruthless and shameless all alike, a vile con-man and coward if there ever was one. IV is a snake in the grass who adds insult to injury by having a bite that's as nasty as his lies when one actually manages to corner him.

On the other hand, IV's younger brother Michael will tell a vastly different story. To Michael, IV is still his big brother Thomas: the rowdy middle sibling who'd steal his cards when he felt like he wasn't being given enough attention, but who'd also return them the moment Michael'd get truly upset. IV is the brother that always looked out for and stuck with him, even if it meant getting hurt while picking a fight with all the bullies in the orphanage at once, just to get Michael’s toy back. Michael sees both the good and the bad in IV. He knows about IV's violence toward his fans, his penchant for coming off as arrogant and egoistical as possible - all those are traits that IV never tried to hide from him. But Michael also knows how much it takes for IV to constantly keep up the act. He knows that IV has loving and vulnerable sides, that he’s doing everything only for them, and that his brother is stretching himself far further out to be what his family needs him to be than what IV can actually bear. It wouldn't be fair to judge a man who's coming apart by his seams when he’s doing it all for you, would it?

To his father, IV is merely a handy tool. His son's good acting and dueling skills has made it easy to have both the monetary needs and influence to enact his revenge covered. With his violence and manipulating, IV is both Tron's attack dog and his bait, ready to be sacrificed to haul in the one bigger one. IV is something to be dismissed, laughed at and used and discarded, no matter how much his son growls at him, because in the end IV is still foolishly loyal and harbors an idealistic dream for seeing their family whole again.

And to IV? IV is basically the human equivalent of a dog turned bad by those who own him, and he knows it.

His bragging and boisterous self-importance is as much a personal trait as it's a defense mechanism to hide the fact that he's the let-down between the three siblings, and has been made over and over aware of that fact for a long time. In the same vein, his abuse of his fans is in a way both venting and a desperate shoutout in response to just how much he has been driven into a desperate corner -- having to put on an act and deny himself constantly to be worth something in the eyes of the world on one side, act as the ruthless henchman without a conscience in a feeble attempt to restore his father back to his right mind and save their family on the other. All while the same father only laughs at him, his older brother retreats into acting like an emotionless robot and his baby brother putting on the pressure by keeping up the hopes for their lost messed-up nut job of a family finding a way to put them back together alright again. And IV is straight in the middle of it all.

He is observant enough to know that all this isn't going to come to a good end, and that the twisted monster that became of their father doesn't care for them at all. He knows that there's no real chance to have things ever turn back to how they once were. And yet he still can't turn his back on it. IV can't stop longing for the love of a father that might as well no longer exist, nor is he capable to turn his back on a chance to restore their family, no matter how abysmal it logically is. That's why he grudgingly does all the terrible things his father bids him to do.

Once everything is said and done, IV still retains a decent sense of morals. While he loves toeing the line, he refuses to go too far (except for against Shark), as evidenced when he accepted getting seriously hurt in order to safe Shark's sister. He might be a bad human who takes a stubborn sense of pride in being what he is, but in the end he’s still only human ...which becomes his undoing over and over again.

In Yu-Gi-Oh the theme and used dueling strategies of a character reflect their personality. In a family where he is surrounded with personal dueling themes like Heraldic Beasts, High-tech Sci-Fi Space Stations and Conquerors and Ancient Aliens IV's theme are broken, cursed dolls. This speaks a lot about what kind of person IV is and sees himself as, since he created that deck.

Character Info

Character's Name: IV
Character's Canon: Yu-gi-oh! ZEXAL
Character's Age: 17
Canon Point: post his defeat at the WDC, when he collapses next to his brother's body and knows that when he loses conscience it will be for death or worse
Background/History: Wiki link! note: warning that the wikia tends to concentrate on the English Dub version of the series which shows in the use of some changed names and the harmless-talking of some events in the series that happened in the English version of it.

Strengths:

* Loyalty: IV's devotion to the few people he actually deems worthy of his attention and respect goes all the way to self-sacrifice and suicide (emotional and literal) for their sakes. He was willing to let his father drive him into being an even worse person than IV already had shaped up to be while fully aware of how much both his family as a whole and he in particular were being used by Tron. IV also chose to stay behind to keep Ryouga from chasing down the others both to buy the remaining humans (including his brothers) time and get a last shot at keeping Ryouga from making exactly the same mistake IV did, despite knowing how little his chances of surviving this fight were.

* Passionate: Buying into the above IV doesn't do anything in halves. In fact he doesn't even seem to be either capable nor willing not to pull out all the stops 110% and more once he has set his mind onto something, be it putting up the fake persona of the Asia Champion, restoring his family, venting his emotions on his victims or trying to kill or befriend Ryouga. Once IV has set himself a goal he will fight hell and high water to get there and gladly sacrifice anything that's in his way, including even himself. The only real reason that this is a strength of his is that it keeps him from ever giving up without a fight and because he is smart about it. Restoring his father doesn't mean that he doesn't see or hate the shit Tron is pulling right now.

* Good Entertainer: In general IV possesses all those traits that make him an excellent professional duelist who often participates in big events. His fame makes him double as something of a popular idol, and he possesses enough charisma, acting skills and the necessary knack to be generally good at guessing what others want so that IV can woo and sway masses easily. The downside to this is that IV's perceptive streak not only helps him to figure out people's real motivations and motives, but also enables him to live out his bullying streak to the worst extents.

Weaknesses:

* Temper: IV has been shown to have always been a temperamental wild child, but growing up as he did turned his temper outright nasty. It's hot, it makes him petty and cranks his sadism up to 1000, it makes him take crazy risks just because he feels like it and it regularly leads him to let his passion burn so hard that it devours himself and anybody close in his vicinity. When IV shows his real self there are very few people who'd want to put up with him which in turn makes his temper even nastier. The same passion that makes IV strong also sabotages him with each step he takes.

* Egoism. IV is an egoist par excellence, bordering on the line to sociopathy at his worst moments. While his worst violent outings began and pretty much ended with Tron's influence over the Arclight siblings IV never really showed any real remorse for any of his deeds past admitting that he is aware that he has long since crossed the point of no return on the moral event horizon. Any care IV shows toward his crimes is centered on how it falls back on him, same with his loyalty to people. Michael is the little brother who never betrayed IV. Chris sees the same things IV sees and does nothing. Tron is messing up their family and grooming IV into a monster for his personal gains but is also the key toward getting their true father back. Ryouga advances from a rival for his father’s approval who needs to be crushed to the one non-family person who knows IV's real self and still heeded his desperate plea to safe his family, and IV’s idea of repaying him is to become his No.1 fan, transferring his attachment from his father to Ryouga. IV is the center of his world, being both victim and perpetrator, independent avenger and yet needing help to save himself, and everybody else are as much props to him as the puppets that make up the theme of his deck. Sure, he loves some of those puppets, but he'd never think to apologize to them for accidentally dropping them or knocking them over. In the end it's always about IV.

* So many issues. Middle Child Syndrome. Inferiority Complex. Abandonment Issues. Daddy Issues. Violent outbursts that drive him to torment people who look up to him as brutally as he can to make up for the abuse and inability to fight back against what is going on with his family. Serious case of Sadism. No clue how not to be an egoist and connect with people. IV is a boy who is messed up beyond belief and who has a knack to hide this fact pretty well until he gets poked. Then all the nasty things that make him up have a bad habit of jumping out of the cracks of his pretty veneer and bite you in the face.

Powers/Abilities:

The Arclight family uses two particular modes of manifesting and using their abilities. The first is a Crest given to them by their father and the second is a bracelet developed by Chris in order to help and strengthen the use of their crests while also lessening the risk of their use. The crest is usually hidden but appears on its user's body when they use it. IV's crest is purple, has a striking shape and is located on his right hand. His crest manifest across the left half of his face. Under certain conditions losing a fight while using their crest will kill the crest's user.

Skills the crest gives are:
- teleportation
- opening portals to either travel through them or to use them for easier communication (just transmitting sound while the portal is open)
- medium-strength soul/mind manipulation. Manifests mainly as the ability to resist it, but some crest users can use it for offensive purposes as well if the right conditions are met.
- hovering/flight
- catching glimpses of things you normally wouldn't (coughGhosts)
- creating dome-like force fields to either keep something in or something out. Locally limited as they can't be moved without deactivating them. Strength and size of it depends on the number of users bundling their powers.

Bracelet - helps stabilize and upgrade the use of the creats. The bracelets of the siblings are linked to each other and can also be used as tracking devices and monitors for vital signs. In the series the bracelets are able to trace the Barian's movements as well, which could translate as them being able to trace extraterrestrial/-dimensional life forms in the game if the players affected give their okay for it.

- enhanced physical fitness and strength. IV once climbed on a towers just so that he could jump down from it for a heroic entrance. That probably says something about the strength of his legs and a whole lot about IV's personality and priorities as a whole.

- basic knowledge of how to use weapons (nothing over-complicated, but how to use a gun, a sword,... The Arclight family has been shown to be pretty pragmatic when it comes to fighting, show about card games be damned.)

- driving a car

- driving a submarine

- Duel skills - being good at calculating numbers and chances swiftly in his head, good at tactics, doesn't get scared easily and can take a physical hit or two, good at analyzing his opponents moves, keeping focused during dire situations,... I don't think that anything related to the card game itself is going to ever become really relevant in the game unless you guys allow him to summon some of his monsters like temporary persona or FF summons with the help of his D-Pad and home technology.

- idol skills - putting on a fake persona and keeping it up convincingly, swaying the masses and all the other things that come along with being something of a celebrity with a pristine rep. Also Fanservice. (of the not-skimpy kind)

Other Noteworthy Traits:

1. Unlike his siblings IV seems to have accepted his numeral name (it's read as "Four", while III/Michael is "Three" and V/Chris is "Quarte") replacing his real one the most out of his family. This goes to the point where he uses it with everybody he interacts with - during the whole show he is only called by his birth-name Thomas once, and it seems to be more of a favor toward the one who is calling him it that IV reacts and lets them get away with it. His identification with being IV reaches the point where he gets upset when anybody else has something four-themed on them because excuse you, that's his number!

2. IV is obsessed with fanservice. While he has build up a reputation to be really good to his fans as Asia Champion spoiling them with his "service" he also uses the term 'fanservice' whenever he starts to really want to hurt a person. Generally it's a red flad hearing him using it.

Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
- Clothes (on person)
- D-pad (on person)
- His deck (on person)
- His bracelet??? (canon point crossing? Should I take it?)
- Michael’s sword (extra)

Color: #ffffcc or #ffff4d. Red is Michael's color and blue is Chris', which leaves only yellow for IV.
